‘In the Beginning’

 

The Vaian looked upon the starry void and contemplated their achievements. The Immutable Laws for this universe were established. Stars and attendant worlds abounded. They turned their minds inwards, weaving their thoughts and designs to the next phase of their construct. Bending the space/time matrix of the Plane to their needs, they created a place – an anchor point in the matrix. Collectively they reached out to the Elemental and Energy Planes, and drew forth the essence and building blocks of creation, beginning their task. Matter and energy swirled in the void. Vast forces combined under the direction of the Vaian, and the coruscating cloud began to condense. Over time, a new star was born from the centre of the searing mass. Further out, half-formed chunks of star matter circled and collided, eventually forming one huge molten ball with two fiery moons orbiting it. The Vaian added pattern and architecture to the new world, giving it life and a Soul, and the ability to evolve. Embedded in their construct they created nodes of power that the infant WorldSoul could use and shape to its purpose. The Vaian observed with satisfaction as the world cooled, then cried out in wonder as it birthed lifeforms of its own – two distinct forms deriving from the prime elements of its construction. One was material in nature, the other spiritual; both conjoined with the essence of magic, and both partaking of the Soul of the World. These entities basked and gloried in their conception and the latent energies of the developing world, gradually gaining in form and definition according to their natures. The Vaian observed and noted the process for their future constructs. Then, seeing that the world was ready, they seeded it with forms according to their own designs - their Children. The Vaian implanted what they had learned from the new world into the nascent lifeforms, to the extent possible for mortal forms, so that they too could have some understanding of the WorldSoul. Satisfied, they left the world, knowing when they returned at the designated time, it would be teeming with life, and they could awaken their Children.
